NornBreeder's Poem: 'The Hatchling' - Posted Wednesday, 9th November 2011 by Laura

The Hatchling

An egg lies growing on the ground
The mother tends it with great care
Brief motion and a crackling sound
Joyous babbling fills the air
The hatchling steps out of his shell
He stumbles, as his steps are crude
Lifting his nose to catch the smell
Questing for a bit of food
A few more paces without fear
Reaching for the prize
Unnoticed, a Grendel draws near
The mother hears the cries
Whimpering he scampers back
Wary of another attack
