Creatures Tenth Anniversary - Posted Saturday, 11th November 2006 by Don

As all the true Creatures fans will be aware, today is Creatures tenth anniversary. It was November 11th 1996 when the first Creatures title was released and it wasn't long before it began to attract a following.

Creatures appealed to so many of us, from the carers and breeders to the scientists and developers but, regardless of what first attracted you to the game, the sounds of your first Norn hatching from its egg, his first words and his expression when you quickly hatched a playmate to keep him company are all memories to be cherished.

We may never truly know quite what it is about this game, about the inhabitants of Albia - the primitive society of furry Norns, the mischievous Ettins and those wicked Grendels - that has kept us here for so many years but I feel certain the reason lies somewhere within the eager yet innocent spark of magic you can see in a Norn's eyes.

So, while the final few projects of this festival are being finished by the busiest members of our community, I bid you to come and post about your fondest Creatures memories within our forums, for future fans to read at the next big anniversary celebration.

Quick September Update - Posted Friday, 29th September 2006 by Don

September has raced past like a steam train and we've been rushed along with it. You might be wondering what's been keeping us so busy... Well, some of the answers you'll find in the original CCDF news post and others can be found in the forums. For example, The Biodome Community Project is coming on superbly if you've been watching that thread, and if you fancy making something for the project yourself then do feel free to let us know!

Naturally there's a lot of secret projects in the works and Liam has been racing round like a mad thing helping others out as well. We're all just hoping that everything is going to come together in time for Creatures' big birthday on November 11th. So look out for more action over October as each of the development teams and individuals begin to meet their release dates. For those of you who haven't yet thought about what you'd like to do to celebrate this year, there are plenty of projects looking for assistance in the forums and we hope to add more development guides to help you guys out shortly too. Yup, its all go at the moment.

Don't forget we're into the Creatures Community *Development* Festival now, so you'll be seeing more people racing around madly working, posting development support requests for their new agents or sending out teaser screenshots as opposed to actual releases for a while. In fact, after watching Liam multi-tasking over these past few weeks I now know what the elves must feel like in the run up to Christmas each year

We've also had a few emails recently asking to see interviews and articles dedicated to certain members of the community, so naturally we're looking into all your requests and will fulfill as many of them as we can. We'll be covering this area in the Albian Awards as well, so stay tuned for more updates soon. In the mean time if any of you fancy writing a development article on any topic - I've seen some lovely grass effects in the forums recently that would make excellent walkthroughs - then do please drop us a message. The more advice and information that can be offered to new developers the more it helps us all!

Terra Pluvialis V3 needs beta testers! - Posted Friday, 15th September 2006 by Liam

I've finally had the time to do some more work on TPV3, and so far I've fixed about half the bugs, and intend to fix more later today, so I am in need of beta testers!

Anyone interested needs to have (at least) read the section on Beta testing in the Metaroom Creation articles, and preferably have a history of beta testing- but anyone is good!

I'll need about 5 testers who can report all bugs to me with (if applicable) the exact error message, weird glitches or strange occurances and anything else they think needs to be changed or fixed.

If you think you're up to it, email me at liam(dot)esler(at)gmail(dot)com!

Creatures Community Development Festival! - Posted Friday, 1st September 2006 by Liam

The Creatures Community Development Festival is an event which is incredibly overdue. We have been celebrating the community for years but what about the developers; those hard-working people who make the agents, cobs, breeds, worlds, programs and metarooms we use?

This festival, which starts on September 1st and runs until November 11th (the 10th Anniversary of Creatures) is all about developers and their projects! We will be taking a close look at several developers and how they work, look a selection of projects in development, and release more open-source backgrounds, images and source code, as well as release more projects!

The CCDF will highlight projects in development and the future of Creatures, bringing community awareness to projects which don't have much publicly available information, as well as little-known projects from the various communities.

There are several sections to the CCDF: one concerns upcoming releases, projects in development and the developers; another is all about community-oriented projects underway such as the Biodome; the last section is the games, competitions and awards you have all been waiting for!

So, are you a developer who would like to share your views on developing, show us your current project in development, gain some help with a project, release a project or write an article or tutorial? Contact us, and we'll do our absolute *best* to help you.

This festival is also about bringing the Community closer. Over the past few years, the various communities have drifted apart and slowly lost contact, and even in some peoples' opinions it has lost its edge and "community" feel. Throughout the festival, we hope that we can help raise the bar in the Creatures Community, both development and friendship wise.

Another focus of the CCDF is open source content and free content. There are a number of open source and free content projects both in the works and already released - including Charan, the backgrounds of Terra Pluvialis, Aquatilis Caverna and the Aquatilis pod - and we are hoping to promote the sharing of graphics and code by supporting projects such as the Biodome Community Bash project, which will be completely open-source in all respects.

That's the long explanation… the short explanation? Developers Rock, So Let's Support Them!!

Upcoming Releases
• Raccoon Norns & Den Metaroom
• Shoutaku Norns
• Pheonix Norns
• Secret Project C.
• Secret Project L.

• The Biodome Community Project
• Ettinopia Community Project
• Lifandi

Featured Projects

• The Fairyfloss Norns
• and more ...
