Does anyone remember the Biodome, an old room which was in development many years ago? Originally conceived by Skarsnik, the team soon expanded to include developers such as the_blog, Liam, Nirax, and Ambershee, and the project began to take shape. Unfortunately, real life issues forced the project to a halt and subsequent attempts by Liam and Nirax to revive the project failed.

Years later, Liam dusted the old background that Nirax had done, and thought that it deserved finishing in one way or another... and that leads us to today and this new project.

The Biodome Community Bash is a project centred around the various artists in the Creatures Community, both recognised and relatively unknown. It is a chance for artists of any level to contribute to a larger project, learn from their peers and have fun!

Basically, the Biodome is split into 6 sections, which are shown in the image below. Several parts have a preset environment, such as 'air' or 'water', but some are entirely in the hands of the artist... so we will have 6 completely different environments, both stylistically and environmentally! The cool catch, though, is that there can be as many environments as there are artists... due to a nifty piece of CAOS code which can change the background of a part of the room much like in Terra by Liger.

Some parts are larger and some smaller; on request, we could either split up or enlarge a section for you, depending on how big/small it is. Sections such as the water/pond room will not be expanded or cut up.

A group of overseers will decide which artists get which sections depending on their preference and skills, and the only rules for the selected artists is that they post a progress report every day or two, and have fun!

They have a week to come up with their part of the background, and at the end of the week the backgrounds will be put together by an outside artist and the core parts coded. This is phase 1... phase 2 is for all the coders out there; more information will come as the project progresses!

If you are an artist and wish to participate in this great project, please read the following rules and send an email off to Liam <liam.esler@gmail.com>, and cross your fingers that you get the section you want! We will do our absolute best to give each artist their preferred area, but its first come first served, so you better get in quick!

Rules for Artists in the Biodome Community Bash:

Artists must submit their name, what program(s) they work with and their preferred technique, which area they would prefer, previous work and projects, and also must be willing to post updates of their part of the background every day or two.

The artist must complete their part of a background within the alloted time period of a week; if they are unable to do so or do not post an update within the first two days another artist will be chosen to do that section of the room.

Interested yet? If any coders would like to lend a hand doing any agents for the room, just just send me an email with your ideas and what you could do!

Hmmm, I think I remember that room. I can't do anything, though.

I wanna run away
Never say goodbye
I wanna know the truth
Instead of wondering why
I wanna know the answers
No more lies
I wanna shut the door
And open up my mind

I'd like to help code some agents for it. I am, however image-impaired, so I'd need someone feeding some neato-bandito sprites to me.

clohse: Sure, I'll do a search on my HD for unfinished agents and the like for you

generalflame: Glad you like it! It will get done, no worries. I believe the community is awesome enough to get *something* done, at least!

Spook has been the only artist to come forward, so come on artists! We're looking for 3d (an example would be TP) or cut-and-paste (an example would be Terra or the Grendel Hideout), or just digital artists - anything is good!

I can promise this will be an interesting project, for both coders and artists - if you are an interested coder, contact me at liam.esler(at)gmail.com and I'll get back to you ASAP!

If needs be I might do a section, but I'd prefer if other artists came forward! Come on people, what're you scared of?

Well I can do sprites but I need to edit sprites really, I can't make something out of nothing, so If anybody can give me picturesto make sprites with or sprites to edit(or tell me what sprites you want me to edit, that's be fine.
and here's one I made earlier

isn't it cute?

I'd do the background... only if I knew what the biodome was supposed to look like. (and if I knew what spook has already done, we don't wanna do the same thing at once now would we, and I want to make sure our styles won't clash.)

Mod hint: You will need to upload the image to a host such as Photobucket or Imageshack for people to see
it online.

Websitekitty: We're all up for people who want to cut + paste a room together out of existing metarooms (you're allowed to use Aquatilis Caverna, Charan and Terra Pluvialis for this task in case anyone is wondering - not sure about other rooms, though. Anything in C1/C2/C3/DS is game as well, though- its totally fine to use anything from those!).

If you find you're better at editing sprites, try doing a bit of cutting, pasting and blending from other rooms and see how you go.

The whole idea with the Biodome project is you can do anything you want within the limits of the space you're assigned - and having the same idea as someone else is totally fine, as everyone's areas will be different.

So if you want to give it a go (or make some agent sprites!) just send an email my way

If you want me to do part of a background, I'll need full sized backgrounds to edit, does anyone know where I can get these?
(and I fancy doing a jungle or tropical garden theme, so something along those lines)

Hi everyone, uh, I'm waaaay too busy with the Boneyard to join this project, sorry. I'm even too busy to even keep up with the CCSF. In fact, I'm too busy to even read this thread, so sorry if I missed anything, but I did want to help out on this, so here's a couple sprites:

Anybody who wants to use them can. The bonsai tree with little grapefruit growing on it has more images, so if anybody wants to use those, just tell me... I scripted it partly, but with a few errors still.
The sprites, by the way, were made from editing some C3 sprites on Paint... alot. Heh
